#PeopleofSPECTRUM – WFH edition with Chris (SPECTRUM)

Working from home – yes or no? We wanted to find out from SPECTRUM members. Meet Chris from SPECTRUM, who shared his experience and some tips on WFH with us.

1. What are the biggest challenges of working from home and how do you deal with them?

I love to read the comments of other members and hearing their stories of coping with working from home.  Just about everyone has made a comment about separating your work time from your “me” time, and I am in total agreement with that as well.  I personally find getting Zoomed out from sitting in one space and staring at a screen on back to back Video calls very draining.

So what do I do – make sure I find some time to look outside at least a couple of times a day and allow my eyes to refocus.  It was interesting speaking to the team recently and everyone on the call was so engrossed in the discussion that a pretty major thunderstorm had passed all our homes without anyone realising – a bit sad….  So opening a window, and staring into space for a while is a great way to relax the eyes and see something fresh and have a fresh perspective.

2. What advice/tips can you give to other members?

Exercise is my thing – and just getting outside and experiencing nature during our work from home time gives me that breakaway from being at home all day long.  So a walk, a run, a bike ride or even a swim is a great way of releasing some of that home time / work time stress and enjoying the “great outdoors” that Singapore has to offer. If you don’t mind the heat then it’s perfect!

3. If you were to describe how you feel about working from home with a song or a movie title what would it be?

A song or a movie title, wow, that’s a tough one!  For hanging in there a song by Elton John, “I’m Still Standing” (click here to listen to it on YouTube).

For a movie, “The Tourist”, because that’s what I miss.  Plus it’s a great movie.  My wife’s song to me is “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”, by the Police.  Hmmm…
